1. About the practitioner
Dr (TCM) Attilio D'Alberto is a qualified practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) — a title awarded by the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in recognition of a five-year full-time degree in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM) and practises at:
Wokingham Therapy Clinic
49 Denmark Street
Wokingham
Berkshire
RG40 2AY
Online consultations are available via Zoom. For enquiries, please visit the contact page.
2. Appointments and booking
Booking: Appointments can be booked online via the scheduling system at drattiliodalberto.as.me, or by contacting the practice directly. Bookings are confirmed by email. Please check your confirmation email and add the appointment to your calendar.
First appointments: For an initial consultation, please allow additional time to complete a health questionnaire before or at the start of your appointment. Where possible, please bring any relevant test results, medical letters or medication lists to your first session.
Punctuality: Please aim to arrive a few minutes before your appointment time. If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time to avoid delays for other patients. The full session fee applies regardless of the time available due to late arrival.
Suitability: Dr D'Alberto reserves the right to decline or discontinue treatment where he does not consider it appropriate, safe or within his professional competence, and to refer patients to other healthcare providers where indicated.
3. Cancellation and late arrival policy
Appointment times are reserved exclusively for each patient. Missed or late-cancelled appointments represent a loss of clinical time that cannot be reallocated to another patient at short notice. The following policy applies:
- More than 48 hours' notice: No charge. The appointment may be rebooked without penalty.
- 24–48 hours' notice: 50% of the session fee is charged.
- Less than 24 hours' notice or non-attendance: The full session fee is charged.
Cancellations must be made by contacting the practice directly or via the online booking system. Please do not send cancellations by social media message.
In exceptional circumstances — including acute illness, bereavement or a genuine emergency — cancellation charges may be waived at the practitioner's discretion. Please contact the practice as soon as possible if such circumstances arise.
Dr D'Alberto reserves the right to cancel or reschedule appointments due to practitioner illness or unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, patients will be notified as promptly as possible and offered an alternative appointment. No charge will be made for appointments cancelled by the practitioner.
4. Payment
Fees: Current treatment fees are listed on the treatment prices page. Fees are subject to periodic review; any changes will be communicated to existing patients in advance.
Payment timing: Payment is due at the end of each appointment. For online consultations, payment is due at the time of booking or before the session begins.
Methods of payment: Payment can be made by cash, bank transfer, or card at the clinic. Details for bank transfer payments will be provided on request. For Chinese herbal medicine orders, payment is required before herbs are dispensed or posted.
Herbal prescriptions: Chinese herbal medicine prescriptions are charged separately from consultation fees unless otherwise stated. A prescription charge covers the cost of the herbs themselves. There is a £10 administration fee for reordering a herbal prescription without a consultation.
Receipts: A receipt will be provided following payment for each session. Receipts are suitable for insurance reimbursement claims.
5. Private health insurance
Several private health insurance providers cover acupuncture treatment given by BAcC members. A list of insurers who currently cover Dr D'Alberto's treatment is available on the private insurance page.
Dr D'Alberto does not bill insurance companies directly. Payment is required at the time of treatment, and receipts are provided so that patients can claim reimbursement directly from their insurer. It is the patient's responsibility to confirm coverage with their insurer before beginning treatment and to submit claims in accordance with their policy terms.
6. Health information and consent
Intake information: Before or at your first appointment, you will be asked to provide health information including your medical history, current medications, and reason for attending. This information is used solely for the purpose of providing safe and effective treatment. Please ensure that all information provided is accurate and complete.
Ongoing disclosure: Please inform Dr D'Alberto of any changes to your health, medications or medical circumstances between appointments. In particular, please disclose any new diagnoses, prescriptions, referrals, procedures, pregnancy or changes to your fertility treatment, as these may affect the safety or appropriateness of acupuncture or herbal medicine.
Informed consent: Treatment will only proceed with your informed consent. Before beginning, Dr D'Alberto will explain the proposed treatment approach, what it involves, and any relevant risks or side effects. You are free to ask questions and to decline any element of treatment at any time.
Right to withdraw consent: You may withdraw consent to treatment at any time without obligation to give a reason. You may also request that treatment stops during a session at any point.
Confidentiality: All information you provide is kept strictly confidential in accordance with the BAcC Code of Professional Conduct and applicable data protection law. Information will not be shared with third parties (including other healthcare providers) without your explicit consent, except where required by law or where the safety of you or others is at risk.
7. Medical disclaimer
Dr D'Alberto is a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, not a medical doctor (MD). The title "Dr (TCM)" is an academic title awarded by the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and reflects a doctoral-level qualification in TCM, not a medical degree or registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are complementary therapies. They are not a substitute for conventional medical care, diagnosis or treatment. Nothing in any consultation, on this website, in published books or articles, or in any other communication from Dr D'Alberto should be taken as a diagnosis of a medical condition or as advice to discontinue, alter or avoid any prescribed medical treatment.
If you have symptoms that require medical attention, you should consult your GP or another appropriately qualified medical professional. If you are undergoing treatment with a specialist — such as a fertility clinic, oncologist or obstetrician — please inform Dr D'Alberto and continue to follow your specialist's advice. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are complementary to, not a replacement for, specialist medical care.
Treatment outcomes cannot be guaranteed. While Dr D'Alberto has extensive clinical experience and many patients benefit significantly from treatment, individual responses vary and results cannot be predicted.
8. Chinese herbal medicine
Prescription: Chinese herbal medicine prescriptions are tailored to the individual patient and must not be shared with others. The prescription is formulated specifically for your current health presentation and is not appropriate for anyone with a different constitution, pattern or health status.
Side effects: Chinese herbal medicine prescribed by a qualified RCHM member is generally safe when taken as directed. Occasionally, patients may experience mild digestive reactions when starting a new prescription. If you experience any adverse effects — including severe digestive symptoms, skin reactions, or other unexpected symptoms — stop taking the herbs and contact Dr D'Alberto promptly.
Interactions: Please inform Dr D'Alberto of all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements. While serious interactions between correctly prescribed Chinese herbs and pharmaceutical medications are uncommon, this information is required to prescribe safely.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: If you are or may be pregnant or are breastfeeding, please inform Dr D'Alberto before taking any herbal prescription. Herbs are prescribed differently in pregnancy and the postnatal period, and only herbs appropriate to your stage are included. Do not purchase or take herbal medicines over the counter during pregnancy without consulting a qualified herbalist.
Postal orders: Where herbs are posted to you following an online consultation, please allow up to five working days for delivery. Herbs are sent by Royal Mail tracked post. You will be notified of postage costs before the order is dispatched. Herbs cannot be returned once dispensed.
Quality: All herbal prescriptions use pharmaceutical-grade granules manufactured by Sun Ten (Taiwan) to strict quality and safety standards, including testing for heavy metals, pesticide residues and microbiological contaminants.
9. Online consultations
Online consultations are conducted via Zoom. You are responsible for ensuring you have a working internet connection, camera and microphone before the session begins. If technical difficulties prevent the session from proceeding, please contact Dr D'Alberto to rearrange. Where a technical failure is on the practitioner's side, no charge will be made for the lost time.
Online consultations have the same confidentiality protections as in-person appointments. Please ensure you are in a private location where you can speak freely. Sessions should not be recorded without the explicit prior consent of both parties.
Online consultations are available to patients in the UK and internationally for fertility coaching, Chinese herbal medicine consultations and general health advice. Acupuncture treatment itself requires an in-person appointment.
